The Fifth Running of the Bulls at San Fermín Ends in Chaos and Tension: 14 Injured and a Serious Facial Goring with the Escolar Bulls

The fifth Running of the Bulls at San Fermín produced one of the most dramatic races of this year's festival. José Escolar’s bulls delivered a highly demanding run, with dangerous moments from the very beginning and a provisional total of 14 runners taken to hospital, including one participant who suffered a serious facial goring.

The fifth Running of the Bulls at San Fermín once again demonstrated the respect commanded by the Escolar ranch. High speed, multiple falls and several pile-ups of runners disrupted the progress of the herd, creating moments of great tension, particularly in the narrowest sections of the course.

Escolar’s Bulls Show Their Tough Character

From the moment they left the Santo Domingo pens, the bulls set a fast pace. The herd remained tightly grouped for much of the route, although slips and the accumulation of runners created several dangerous situations.

The most dramatic moments came in the final stretch of the run. One runner was caught by a bull and suffered a serious facial goring. Medical teams treated him immediately before transferring him to the University Hospital of Navarre.
