Valdemorillo Chronicle: Juan Ortega opens the main gate in San Blas

08 febrero 2026

Valdemorillo Chronicle: Juan Ortega Opens the Puerta Grande at San Blas

The sun finally came out in Valdemorillo, with the ‘Sold Out’ sign hanging at the ticket office, confirming the strength of an artistic lineup beyond Morante. And amid the stormy conditions, Juan Ortega once again delivered true, deep-rooted bullfighting to maintain his special bond with La Candelaria. Two ears and a Puerta Grande exit to bring the mountain town’s cycle to a close.

It was an afternoon of great expectation, shaped by the rain and by a Torrealta bullfight that showed more intention than power, ultimately undone by a lack of strength. There was refined verónica work from Pablo Aguado and tasteful details from Uceda Leal, but the weight of the afternoon eventually rested on the fifth bull.

Juan Ortega received that fifth bull with a white-trimmed cape, and the afternoon, which had been slipping away in disappointment, changed course in barely ten minutes. The Sevillian shaped a fine performance on the right hand against a good Torrealta bull. The olés rang out strongly during long, measured series that came close to ten passes. Ortega reaffirmed his bond with Valdemorillo through a display of sublime engagement and perfect meeting points. On the left, the bull gave less, but Ortega sustained the work through placement and composure. After a decisive sword thrust, he cut both ears.

The second bull, low and short of strength, charged without true delivery and constantly onto the forehand, noble but lacking continuity. The absence of rhythm denied any sustained flow, and Ortega’s most notable moments came in the low finishing passes. A slightly misplaced sword on the second attempt. Silence.

The high-cost, refined bullfighting of Pablo Aguado appeared from the very start of his bout with the third, one of the highlights of the afternoon. Stylish verónicas to a bull that showed nobility but arrived exhausted to the muleta. Aguado tried, but could not lift the performance, which, despite its elegant forms, never truly took flight. He fared worse with the sixth, a bull devoid of strength that denied any real chance of success.

Uceda Leal left moments of quality with his lot. The opening bull had as much class as it lacked strength, and the Madrid bullfighter relied on classical technique, working at half height to try to sustain the charge. To no avail. With the fourth, lacking class but showing more depth by holding back, Uceda Leal showed determination and produced highly meritorious natural passes, acknowledged by the crowd with a lap of honour. It was shortly before Juan Ortega created a storm of his own in Valdemorillo, after another had conditioned the entire bullfight.

Fight Summary

Valdemorillo Bullring (Madrid).
Bullfight. Third and final event of the 2026 San Blas Fair.
Sold Out.
Bulls from Torrealta, well presented and well made, but producing a disappointing performance due to a lack of strength. The fifth bull stood out.

  • Uceda Leal: applause and lap of honour
  • Juan Ortega: silence and two ears
  • Pablo Aguado: silence and silence

Notes: At the end of the paseo, the Spanish National Anthem was played. A risky and timely intervention by Perico to Marcos Ortiz stood out during the fourth bull. Banderillero Iván García took a bow after placing his banderillas on the sixth.

Seville is already finalizing its posters (not yet official)

27 enero 2026

Seville is already finalizing its (still unofficial) lineups

José María Garzón has practically completed the lineups for his first season as the manager of the Real Maestranza de Caballería de Sevilla. The season will be marked by one of the most anticipated returns of the year: that of Morante de la Puebla. The Sevillian bullfighter will appear on four afternoons, with a fifth scheduled for San Miguel, and the return of the Corpus Christi Bullfight as one of the highlights of the season.

Roca Rey will be another key figure in the season. The Peruvian matador will perform on four afternoons and will coincide with Morante in the Easter Sunday bullfight. Both will also share a clear approach in their lineups: a focus on young bullfighters, a criterion that José María Garzón has always championed and which is presented as one of the main attractions of the season.

Juan Ortega and Pablo Aguado, two prominent names in Seville, will also appear on four afternoons a week in a season that will feature all the top matadors. José María Manzanares, Alejandro Talavante, Daniel Luque, Manuel Escribano, and Borja Jiménez will each make three appearances. The latter two will headline one of the most anticipated lineups of the season: a mano a mano (one-on-one) with bulls from the Victorino Martín ranch, a breeder with whom both have delivered impressive performances in recent years.

The season will feature a strong presence of young bullfighters, bringing novelty and excitement to a crucial year for the renewal of the bullfighting hierarchy. Within this context, David de Miranda, a triumphant figure in 2025, will be included on the Easter Sunday lineup, a testament to his own merit and his achievements in the ring.

Bullfights featuring bulls from the Alcurrucén and Fuente Ymbro ranches are scheduled for the weekend of March 10-12. For those celebrations, names like José Garrido, David Galván, Samuel Navalón or Rafa Serna, among others, are being mentioned.

This fair is designed to revive the Seville Fair season ticket market in José María Garzón's first year at the helm of the company, a new phase that includes a 10% discount and other benefits for season ticket holders. Pending official confirmation and taking into account possible changes resulting from negotiations, the unofficial lineups for the Seville Fair are as follows:

April 5: Morante de la Puebla, Andrés Roca Rey and David de Miranda (Garcigrande)
April 15: Manuel Escribano, Miguel Ángel Perera and Aarón Palacio (Santiago Domecq)
April 16: Morante de la Puebla, Juan Ortega and Víctor Hernández (Álvaro Núñez)
April 17: Alejandro Talavante, Roca Rey and Pablo Aguado (Domingo Hernández)
April 18: Manuel Escribano and Borja Jiménez, mano a mano (Victorino Martín)
April 19: Rejoneo (mounted bullfight)
April 20: Morante de la Puebla, Borja Jiménez and Tomás Rufo (Hnos. García Jiménez)
April 21: José María Manzanares, Alejandro Talavante and Daniel Luque (Núñez del Cuvillo)

San Isidro 2026: lineups almost finalized and key dates at Las Ventas

26 enero 2026

Las Ventas bullring has practically finalized the lineups for the 2026 San Isidro bullfights, a process that began immediately after the season ended, following a thorough review of the available livestock. The result is a series that will begin on May 8th and run continuously, with the usual Monday rest days, until Sunday, June 7th.

That final day almost certainly promises a high-voltage event: Borja Jiménez will fight six bulls alone in the now-traditional In Memoriam bullfight, which this year will serve as a tribute to Ignacio Sánchez Mejías. A closing event with symbolic weight, featuring a bullfighter who has earned his place through his own merit.

What is known so far about the lineups suggests a balanced and attractive program, with a carefully measured mix of up-and-coming talents, young bullfighters, and established figures—a formula that fits well with the current state of the bullfighting rankings. That bulk of the season ticket was already exclusively revealed by Mundotoro last December.

Within the established dates, it is now official that the Charity Bullfight will be held on June 14th, with a lineup featuring Alejandro Talavante, Roca Rey, and Víctor Hernández, facing bulls from Victoriano del Río. Talavante and the Madrid native Víctor Hernández are scheduled to appear on three afternoons during the season, a number that other prominent names will also reach.

The Press Bullfight will once again present a highly anticipated lineup. It will take place on May 28th and will feature Andrés Roca Rey, Diego Urdiales, and Bruno Aloi, who will confirm his alternative that afternoon.

The season will open with the traditional Núñez del Cuvillo bullfight, in which Alejandro Talavante, the only matador to exit through the Puerta Grande at the last San Isidro Fair, will be featured. The Extremaduran matador will also once again face bulls from the Garcigrande ranch.

Among the new additions, Víctor Hernández, one of the leading names in the sport right now, will appear with bulls from Alcurrucén and Jandilla, the latter sharing the bill with Borja Jiménez. It appears he will appear on three afternoons, a number that Pablo Aguado and Fernando Adrián could also reach.

Emilio de Justo, one of last season's most successful bullfighters in Madrid, will make two top-level appearances. The same number of appearances will be made by bullfighters such as Juan Ortega, Sebastián Castella, Daniel Luque, Tomás Rufo, Miguel Ángel Perera, Diego Urdiales, David de Miranda, Fortes, Morenito de Aranda, Paco Ureña, and Antonio Ferrera. In contrast, José María Manzanares will make only one appearance in a season that, as rarely before, emphasizes the coexistence of young and established bullfighters. Another significant development is the return of Manuel Jesús "El Cid" to the San Isidro Fair.

In terms of livestock, the main focus will be on Victoriano del Río, with two and a half bullfights, and Juan Pedro Domecq. Adding to this is a remarkable milestone: the Seville-based La Quinta ranch will, for the first time in its history, provide two full bullfights at the San Isidro Fair.

With all the necessary caveats inherent in a season still subject to adjustments, the planned lineups for San Isidro 2026 would be as follows:

Sat 02/05: Goyesque Bullfight. Uceda Leal, El Cid, and Javier Cortés (El Pilar)

SAN ISIDRO FAIR

Fri 08/05: Alejandro Talavante, Juan Ortega, and Tristán Barroso, confirmation (Núñez del Cuvillo)
Sat 09/05: Miguel Ángel Perera, Daniel Luque, and Tomás Rufo (La Quinta)
Sun 10/05: David Galván, Román, and Gonzalo Caballero (Conde de Mayalde)

Sun 07/06: Borja Jiménez, solo (Domingo Hernández and Victoriano del Río)

June 14: Alejandro Talavante, Roca Rey, and Víctor Hernández (Victoriano del Río)

San Isidro 2026 is shaping up with a clear balance between established names and up-and-coming bullfighters, a well-distributed selection of bulls, and several key dates circled on the calendar. A long, demanding season, designed for the Madrid aficionado.

Ana Romero Returns to Top Bullrings in 2026

22 enero 2026

The Ana Romero ranch faces 2026 as a pivotal season in its recent history. The Cádiz-based ranch, with its Santa Coloma-Buendía lineage, will once again fight bulls in top-tier bullrings, with Dax as its main focus this year. This return stems from a coherent, well-defined concept of the bull and meticulous planning.

From the Las Cobatillas ranch in Alcalá de los Gazules, Lucas Carrasco continues to set a clear course. “I want brave bulls, bulls that convey emotion and add significance to the performances,” he explains. An animal that demands, with rhythm in its charge, but that maintains class, breeding, and commitment when things are done right.

Last season left a positive impression despite its brevity. The bullfight held in Azpeitia was recognized as the best of the San Sebastián and San Ignacio festivals, in addition to the outstanding presence of bulls in the Chenel Cup and the competition bullfight in Villaseca de la Sagra. These results validate a strategy based on fighting fewer bulls, but with greater demands.

Dax will be the major challenge of 2026. “Regaining the trust of such a venue is both a responsibility and an honor,” acknowledges Carrasco, aware that a small herd relies heavily on a few events for much of the year. The roadmap is completed with Azpeitia and Villaseca, along with the plan to keep five-year-old bulls to continue competing for top-tier venues in the future.

In terms of morphology, Ana Romero maintains a very recognizable type of bull: short, with a compact frame and larger horns, perfectly suited to her vision and without compromise.

“The easy thing would be to change in order to get into every venue, but I prefer to remain true to my idea,” she concludes.

Ana Romero is thus returning to the top bullrings in 2026, drawing on the patience of the countryside and the strength of her own livestock model.

Corpus Christi in Seville: Morante leads the big bet for 2026

21 enero 2026

José María Garzón is already working at full capacity on putting together the Real Maestranza's season lineup, now that Morante de la Puebla has given the green light for his return. In this context, the Corpus Christi bullfight in Seville becomes one of the cornerstones of the Seville-based businessman's new project.

The schedule will be officially presented on February 9th at a gala held at the Cartuja Center. It will be then that the details of a season heavily marked by the return of the bullfighter from La Puebla and by the clear intention to restore prominence to dates steeped in history will be revealed.

Morante de la Puebla will appear on four afternoons, including the Corpus Christi bullfight, one of the season's major new additions. Together with José María Garzón, the bullfighter has sought to revitalize a day that had lost its luster in recent years, opting for a lineup with a distinctly artistic flair to restore Corpus Christi to its rightful place within the Seville Fair.

According to sources close to the public, Morante will share the bill that day with Juan Ortega and Pablo Aguado, a combination that resonates with Seville's bullfighting aficionados. Regarding the livestock, the ranches of Hermanos García Jiménez and Domingo Hernández are being considered.

Beyond the Corpus Christi bullfight in Seville, Garzón has already secured Morante's return on Easter Sunday, another highlight of his debut as the arena's manager. This highly anticipated bullfight will feature the renowned bullfighter from Cigarrero alongside Roca Rey and David de Miranda, the latter being the only matador to exit through the Puerta del Príncipe (Prince's Gate) in 2025. The bulls for this event will be from the Garcigrande ranch.

At TaquillaOficial.com you can check and purchase tickets for the major bullfighting events of the Seville season, including Corpus Christi and the most eagerly awaited lineups at the Real Maestranza.

Morante de la Puebla set to return in Seville in 2026

20 enero 2026

The news many fans were waiting for is now on the table. Morante de la Puebla is set to return in Seville in 2026, just six months after the afternoon he took off his añadido at Las Ventas on 12 October. His comeback is expected to come on Easter Sunday, one of the most meaningful dates on Seville’s bullfighting calendar.

This announcement is not just about when Morante returns, but how: a comeback designed with continuity, several confirmed appearances, and La Maestranza as the backbone of his season. The comeback: 5 April at La Maestranza

According to journalist Vicente Zabala de la Serna, the torero from La Puebla del Río will put the traje de luces back on Sunday, 5 April, Easter Sunday, at the Real Maestranza de Sevilla. It will be his first walk to the ring since that moment in Madrid, when he removed the añadido in the middle of the arena at Las Ventas.

The choice of venue is no surprise. Seville is home, and La Maestranza is the ring where, last season, he left a handful of afternoons that stayed in the memory, rounding off what many consider the finest year of his career in that plaza. Five dates in Seville, not a one-off

Morante’s return to Seville will not be limited to the opening fixture of the season. As reported, he has agreed five appearances at La Maestranza for this campaign, alongside the new management led by José María Garzón.

The key point is simple: this is not a symbolic reappearance. It is a structured commitment across the season

First appearance: 5 April, Easter Sunday.
Two further dates: the April Fair.
A particularly special date: the Corpus Christi corrida, a traditional fixture the new management wants to bring back, and one Morante is said to be especially keen on.
Fifth appearance: September, during the San Miguel Fair.

In total, five afternoons in Seville, the same number of times he appeared at La Maestranza last season.

This decision comes six months after the landmark day at Las Ventas on 12 October 2025, with the morning festival in tribute to Antoñete followed by the Corrida de la Hispanidad. That afternoon, Morante was carried out on shoulders after taking two ears from the fourth bull and removing the añadido in the centre of the ring.

It was presented as a break, not a retirement, and the calendar fits that intention. From 12 October 2025 to 5 April 2026, it is practically half a year, the time Morante has chosen before stepping back into the spotlight. A measured return with a clear plan

Morante de la Puebla’s return in Seville in 2026 is being framed with a clear structure: his ring, the key dates, and a steady presence through the season. Five appearances spread across Easter Sunday, the April Fair, Corpus Christi and San Miguel point to a comeback built with intent, rather than improvisation.

For Seville, it means seeing again in its own plaza a torero who last season produced afternoons to remember, in a style only he can stamp on La Maestranza.

At Taquilla Oficial, ticket sales for Easter Sunday 2026 are temporarily paused, pending final confirmation of the bill and conditions. Sales are expected to be re-enabled in early February, when tickets will be available directly through our platform. If you plan to attend, it is worth keeping an eye on the reopening, as this is one of the most sought-after dates of the entire Seville season.

Adolfo Martin Rancher, heading into the 2026 season.

18 enero 2026

Cattle breeder Adolfo Martín has already begun to chart the course for the 2026 season for his ranch, a campaign in which Madrid will once again become the main stage of his bullfighting year.  The Extremadura-based ranch will have two appearances at the Las Ventas bullring , thus reaffirming the importance of the capital as the central hub of his season.

The breeder himself has revealed that the year's structure will have a very significant impact in Madrid, with one bullfight planned to open the Ventas season and another within the San Isidro cycle , further reinforcing the prominence of his brand in the most demanding bullring in the world.

Looking ahead to the rest of the year, Adolfo Martín plans a season of continuity , with a similar number of events to previous years. In total, he intends to fight between eight and ten bullfights , maintaining his presence in arenas where his ranch has already provided bulls in recent years, without losing the personality, seriousness, and appeal that characterize his brand.

In addition, the rancher has also announced that the season will once again feature a prominent section for popular festivities , with several specimens destined for bullfighting celebrations in the street, an area where his ranch maintains an important presence.

As for the bullfighting section, the Extremaduran brand will follow the usual line, with the expectation of fighting two or three bullfights throughout 2026, maintaining a balance between the present and the projection of the future.
